What is membership?

Plymouth 2 Alano Society is a recovery community with a simple mission: We believe in the transformative power of the Twelve Steps and the programs built upon them, and we want to ensure that Twelve Step groups have a place and resources to carry their message so that people can recover. We try to lower barriers that can prevent a group from fulfilling its primary purpose by offering a clean, safe environment at a price any group can afford.

Plymouth 2 Alano Society members are typically members of one or more groups that meet at the Plymouth 2 Alano who wish to do more to support our broader recovery community and the Plymouth 2 Alano mission. By joining the society as a member, you become an active and vital participant in advancing that mission, and frankly, we could not do this without our members. We are grateful for the community that has flourished in and around out meeting rooms, and we hope you will join it too!

Becoming a member

Joining the Plymouth 2 Alano as a member is simple. Any person may join or renew annual membership who:

  • Pledges any monetary amount to the Plymouth 2 Alano society (suggested annual contribution is $35)
  • Provides contact information including full name, email address and phone number (these details are kept strictly private)

We accept cash, check and electronic pledges. Paper forms are provided in the Alano for cash and check contributions. Links on this website enable electronic contributions through PayPal. You can also use the paper forms to update your contact information after you have pledged.

Tip: If you use the PayPal option, you can optionally configure automatic, recurring monthly or annual contributions! Consider setting up small, monthly contributions or set up your annual renewal once and for all!

Membership privileges

Becoming a Plymouth 2 Alano Society member grants certain privileges.

  • You receive a code to unlock the front door of the Alano. Access is granted only during the Alano’s open hours (currently 07:00 am to 11:00 pm) and only for these purposes:
    • Regularly scheduled meetings (at least one P2A member must be present at every group meeting)
    • Meeting with your sponsor or those who you sponsor between meetings
    • Special events approved or organized by the Plymouth 2 Alano Society Board of Directors
  • You are permitted to vote in elections for the Plymouth 2 Alano Society Board of Directors (ballots are emailed, voting is online only)
  • You can run in the annual election for an open Plymouth 2 Alano Society Board of Directors position (requires nomination)
  • You have voice and vote in any matters that are brought to the membership for consideration
  • You are invited to attend the annual members’ meeting in April
  • You may represent your group and relay board communications as a group liaison (groups must have two group liaisons)
  • You may start a new recovery group at, or move an existing group to, the Plymouth 2 Alano, with board approval
  • You may host a recovery-related event at the Plymouth 2 Alano with board approval – rates are exceptionally affordable

Contribution amounts

The suggested annual contribution is $35. Members who are able, give generously. Those who are not, give what they can.

There is no maximum contribution. Because Plymouth 2 Alano Society is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and contributions are used only in accordance with IRS guidelines for nonprofits, all contributions are tax deductible. If you contribute $200 or more in a calendar year, you may request a tax receipt (send an email to the Board email address found on the P2A Board bulletin board).

We genuinely appreciate the very generous contributions of some members, but every single dollar makes a difference. We mean it when we say that any amount grants you membership.

Remember that if you use the PayPal option, you can set up small monthly contributions if that’s easier on your budget. Why not just $10 per month?
